WARTUNG & TECHNIKEN
During conditioning, your scissors are fully inspected and cleaned. The blades are then treated using the sharpening technique that best suits the type and geometry of your scissors.
The scissors are sharpened, polished and precisely adjusted. We then check the tension, movement and cutting performance to make sure the complete scissor functions correctly, not just the cutting edge.
Yes. In addition to regular cutting scissors, we also condition professional thinning, blending and texturizing scissors.
These scissors have a different construction and require a specific treatment and sharpening technique. We inspect each scissor individually to determine the correct treatment.
Traditionally sharpened scissors usually have a flat blade surface with a bevelled cutting edge. They provide a firm cutting feel and are well suited for straight, controlled cutting.
Japanese convex scissors have a curved blade profile with an extremely fine cutting edge. This allows the scissors to move smoothly through the hair with less resistance, making them ideal for precision work, slicing and point cutting.
Convex scissors require specialist maintenance to preserve their original blade geometry and cutting performance.
Kyone takes this one step further with Streamlined Convex. This technique uses a variable convex grind, helping the tip stay sharp for longer while providing more grip, less resistance and smooth cutting performance all the way to the tip.
Sharpening Japanese scissors requires specialist knowledge, experience and equipment. This is especially important for scissors with original convex blades, where the correct blade geometry must be preserved.
Incorrect sharpening can replace the original convex edge with a fixed bevel, remove too much material or leave the blades insufficiently polished. This can reduce cutting performance and permanently damage the scissors.
Professional Japanese scissors should therefore be maintained by a specialist with experience in convex sharpening and the correct equipment.
Poor sharpening can often be recognised by how your scissors cut, move and look after sharpening. Common signs include:
- The scissors cut worse than before.
- Hair is pushed, folded or pulled between the blades.
- The scissors feel heavy, stiff or uneven.
- They do not cut properly all the way to the tip.
- The original convex edge has been replaced by a fixed bevel.
- Coarse grinding marks or scratches are visible.
- The blades are poorly polished.
- Too much material has been removed.
- The blade shape or tip has changed.
- The tension or closing action is incorrect.
Professional sharpening should restore smooth movement and controlled cutting while preserving the original blade geometry.
Yes. Every scissor is inspected before any work begins. We check the condition of the blades, wear, damage, adjustment and any signs of previous sharpening.
Based on this inspection, we determine the treatment and sharpening technique your scissors require.

Customers outside the Netherlands can only send Kyone scissors. Scissors from other brands are currently only accepted from customers in the Netherlands.

REPAIRS & DAMAGE
We first inspect the scissors to determine the type of damage and whether they can be repaired. This may include damage caused by dropping the scissors, damaged blades or tips, adjustment problems or damage caused by previous sharpening.
Even if your scissors have been dropped or previously treated by another sharpening service, we will try to restore them.
If we determine during our work that the scissors cannot be repaired, we will not charge you for the work performed.
In many cases, we can repair scissors that have been sharpened incorrectly. This depends on how much material has already been removed and how severely the original shape and blade geometry have been affected.
We first inspect the scissors carefully to determine whether proper restoration is still possible. If full restoration is no longer possible, we will discuss this with you before carrying out any work.
Send dropped scissors in for inspection as soon as possible.
A fall can damage the blades, tip or adjustment, even when there is little visible damage. Continuing to use damaged scissors can cause further wear, reduce cutting performance and shorten their lifespan.
Avoid using the scissors until they have been inspected.
After conditioning, we carefully check the adjustment and overall performance of your scissors.
We check the tension, movement of the scissors, alignment of the blades and cutting performance all the way to the tip.
Your scissors are only returned after they have been fully inspected and tested.
We recommend having your scissors inspected as soon as you notice a decline in cutting performance.
Continued use can increase wear. Hair may be pushed, folded or pulled between the blades, and you may need to use more force while cutting.
Professional conditioning helps prevent further damage and restores the cutting performance of your scissors.
If your scissors do not cut or function properly after conditioning, please contact us as soon as possible.
We will assess the issue and find an appropriate solution. If the scissors need to be returned to the Kyone Service Center, we will arrange with you how they should be sent back.
SCISSOR CARE & MAINTENANCE
Almost every professional hairdressing scissor can be conditioned. We inspect each pair individually, checking its condition, type, wear and any damage before determining the correct treatment.
If a scissor cannot be conditioned or repaired, we will contact you before carrying out further work.
Customers in the Netherlands can send professional hairdressing scissors from all brands. Customers outside the Netherlands can only send Kyone scissors.
Remove hair and dirt from your scissors after use and keep the blades clean. Oil the moving parts regularly and store your scissors in a dry, protected place.
Only use professional hairdressing scissors for cutting human hair and avoid contact with hard materials. Never attempt to sharpen the blades yourself.
If you notice a decline in cutting performance, have your scissors professionally inspected and conditioned.
The cost depends on the type of scissors and the treatment required. Every pair is inspected when it arrives so we can determine the correct service.
For current prices for conditioning, repairs and engraving, please visit our Scissor Service Pricing page.
Yes. We can professionally laser engrave your name or company name on your scissors. Scissors with a titanium coating can also be engraved.
